If you’ve spent any time in downtown Great Falls, you’ve probably seen Jenn and her laptop working on an article. She runs The Electric Great Falls, and she does a kick-ass job of reporting things that matter to Great Falls.

52 Portraits : 9-12/52
The quarantine slowed the portrait project a bit, but I was able to grab shots of a few people the other day. I'm still committed to shooting all 52 this year, I'm just going to have to ramp it up a bit.
52 Portraits : 8/52
An almost summer evening at a bar with outdoor seating gave me the opportunity to grab a photo for #8--Kaelyn.
52 PORTRAITS : 7/52
I have this friend. One day, she decided she wanted to be a Highway Patrol Trooper. So she did it. Can't even begin to tell you how proud I am of her--she set a goal, and went after it. And, she was kind enough to let me take her picture.
FaceTime Photoshoot with Kayla
These are strange times. If I were a landscape photographer, I'd be set. But I prefer to photograph people, which is difficult when everyone is supposed to be staying at home. I saw other portrait photographers doing remote photoshoots over FaceTime/Zoom/whatever, so I asked Kayla if she'd be interested. She's always up for a challenge,... Continue Reading →

https://danielhedrick.smugmug.com/52portraits/52-Portraits-2020/i-5bbMsZM/A Dave was my art teacher back when I was a sophomore in high school. He teaches at University of Providence now, and still has a passion for all things creative. Drawing, ceramics, photography--one of the people responsible for driving me to create more.
https://danielhedrick.smugmug.com/52portraits/52-Portraits-2020/i-v5TJPSj/A I ran down to Missoula for the weekend, and ended up doing an impromptu photoshoot at 3am. #5 came out of that shoot. More proof that you don't need elaborate plans--just pick up the camera and start shooting.

You might recognize Mya from the metal-themed (that became a blue-themed) portrait from last year. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-hJCPcXJ/0/2ea07fee/X2/i-hJCPcXJ-X2.jpg She's a trooper.

https://danielhedrick.smugmug.com/52portraits/52-Portraits-2020/i-zKqWC8Z/A Sometimes good light just happens. Part of the goal of this project is to force myself to pay attention to light again. It's easy to get caught up in being busy, so busy that we miss perfect opportunities for a photo. No studio, lights, backdrop, or planning. Just lunch near a window. 52 Portraits... 52 Portraits : 1/52
Off to a slow start on this 52 Portraits project, but a weekend of ice fishing provided a great opportunity. I couldn't feel my fingers, the shot isn't well focused, and I didn't have my A7R III handy, but it pretty accurately depicts the cold we endured packing up camp on Sunday morning. https://danielhedrick.smugmug.com/52portraits/52-Portraits-2020/i-JSdtd4h/A Every... A Year in Pictures: 2019
It's that time of year again. Breaking down a few stats from my Lightroom library to see what's what. I already know I took fewer photos this year--it's been a weird year for me photographically speaking. This is something I plan to change in 2020 Camera Use The first thing I always look at is...
