Like a lot of dogs, mine hates fireworks. So rather than drug him this 4th of July, I decided to head out into the sticks. A friend owns 10 acres in Washington, and offered it up as a place to camp. It was remote, wild, and devoid of people. Perfect for escaping fireworks.
DOT and FAA Finalize Rules for Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems
The FAA has finally released it's ruling on drone/UAS/multi-rotor (whatever you want to call them) use. The rules on commerical use seem to be more appropriate than they were previously. Visual line of site is required, height and speed restrictions apply, and legal time of day for flying is established. A remote pilot certificate is... Continue Reading →
Graduation
I've been lucky to watch these guys grow up, and it was awesome that they let me go to their graduation.
Dunes
On one of my first trips to Oregon, my uncle took us to Honeyman State Park. It is, without a doubt, my favorite place on the Oregon Coast.
Relic
I've been in Portland now for almost exactly half my life. Long enough to occasionally be able to say, "I remember when..."
When I first moved out here, this sign looked better. My buddy's girlfriend lived right around the corner from here, so we spent quite a bit of time at Coach's Bar in this little strip mall, too.
Kanchan and Kate
I met Kanchan almost three years ago, and this is the first time our schedules have matched up for a shoot. She brought Kate, and we spent a few hours shooting up at Stub Stewart park. The Oregon weather cooperated, (finally,) and I think we got a few good shots.
Sunday Morning in the Coast Range
I got my first .22 rifle when I was 10 or 11, and I've loved target shooting ever since. Last weekend, a couple friends and I ran out to the mountains to sight in a few new rifles.
Day One 2

I know people tend to get bent out of shape when forced to pay for an upgrade, myself included. But this one is worth it.
Remote Photography
I've been eyeballing drones for a couple of years now, and since DJI dropped the prices on their Phantom 3 Standard and Advanced models, I decided now was as good a time as any to pick one up.
Camera Connection Kit for iPhone?
While updating my iPhone this morning, I noticed a line item that said the USB adapter on the Lightning camera connection kit will now work with the iPhone. I sold my old connection kit with my old iPad Mini, so I haven't been able to test it yet, but if it's true, this is great... Continue Reading →
Evernote quietly adds handwriting to iOS app
When I hit the app store to update my iPad today, I noticed an Evernote app update stating that we can now add "a colorful sketch" to our notes. Given the fact that Android users have been able to do this for awhile, I'm surprised there wasn't more fuss made about this release. It's awesome... Continue Reading →
Day One as an Evernote Food Replacement
Let's start this post with a moment of silence to honor the recently deceased Evernote Food app... I mean, I get it. Evernote has been making some major changes internally in order to become more profitable. It was inevitable. Nobody is in business to be warm and fuzzy. They're in it to make money. Period....
