Canon AE-1

A few years back, I managed to score a free Canon AE-1 on Craigslist. It needed a little work, and I finally took it in to Blue Moon to get it fixed. They had it back to me earlier than promised, and I can’t wait to run a roll through it.

I’m not what you’d call a purist when it comes to film. I love my digital cameras, but there’s just something about the fully mechanical nature of film cameras that can’t be imitated by digital. Between this, my Yashica (which I now realize I’ve never written about,) and the three instant cameras that are now in my collection, I think my film fix is satisfied. If you’ve never shot film, I’d highly recommend picking up an old 35mm or medium format camera just to experiment. It’ll make your digital photography better, I promise. If you’re in Portland, go browse the selection at Blue Moon. They’re great people who wont’t try to push you into buying something you don’t need.
