Ashlee, Kanchan, and Kayla

On my last trip to Portland, I managed to squeeze in a shoot with my three favorite models.

I didn't bring any lights with me, so I picked up a couple Lume Cubes and we experimented. One of the girls had a colored inflatable light we played with, as well. I love experimenting with light.

Back to Big Sky Country

Twenty-one years ago, I moved to Portland from Montana. I couldn't wait to get out and experience *more*. I knew there was more to life than Montana. A few years ago, I started thinking about moving back. Last summer, I decided to make it happen.

It's not that I don't still love Portland. I'm just not as in love with it as I was back then. The population doubled, but the infrastructure didn't, the political climate felt hypocrytical and strange, and the solid gray skies were starting to get to me.

So I loaded up the UHaul and drove to Montana.

Columbia River Gorge

I came back to Portland for a two week visit yesterday, (more on the move to Montana later.) Driving through the Columbia River Gorge was eerie. The rain was pouring down, there was a thick layer of smoke, and every now and then I'd catch a glimpse of fire out of the corner of my... Continue Reading →

Nine Years with Evernote

Evernote recently celebrated the nine-year anniversary of their public beta. Three years ago, I posted my Evernote stats. I thought it would be fun to look at my stats after nine years.

Kayla, Ashlee, and Kanchan

Now that summer is (more or less) here in the Pacific Northwest, I'm trying to get in as many fun photo sessions as possible. A few weekends ago, Kanchan joined Kayla, Ashlee, and I on a trip out to the Coast Range of Oregon for an afternoon shoot.

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and the Apple Mouse

This will be a bit of a detour from the normal posts. And it might be a surprise to those of you who know me and my affinity for all things Apple.

I use a Microsoft Surface Pro 4. The why is probably best saved for a future post, but the short version is that I wanted a tablet that functioned like an actual computer. I love my iPad, but I can only do so much with it. And Windows 10 isn't _horrible_.

With the Surface, I bought the Microsoft keyboard cover. It isn't _horrible_ either. But I'm not a fan of the trackpad. I guess I've been spoiled by the trackpads on my MacBooks. Since I have a nest of Apple Magic Mice roaming around my office, I wanted to use one of them instead of going out and buying a new mouse.

Kayla and Ashlee

Ashlee and Kayla wanted to do a crazy makeup shoot, and I needed to test out the new Sony A7ii, so we got together to experiment. I turned my family room into a studio and we started shooting.

Minolta XL-400

I recently picked up a Minolta XL-400. It isn't currently working, so I can't say much about it. I'm looking forward to getting it repaired so I can run a pack of 8mm film through it.

Sony Mavica

My very first digital camera was a Sony Mavica. Technically, it wasn't mine. It belonged to the company I worked for at the time. My general manager knew I was into photography, so he'd let me take it home on the weekends.

Vantage Point

Recently, I was contacted by the Light company and asked about my favorite location to shoot as part of their #VantagePoint project. It made me realize that I don't really have one favorite location. I have several, and they're all outside. I'm not opposed to shooting in a studio, but I definitely prefer to be outdoors.
