This is part three in a series I started awhile ago. If you haven't read the Av (Aperture) and Tv (Shutter Speed) posts yet, feel free to do so now. Av - Aperture Tv - Shutter Speed The Short Version The Av setting controls the aperture, or the size of the hole that lets light... Continue Reading →
TUESDAY TIPS: Tv Setting
We've covered the Av setting in a previous blog post, so now it's time to go over the Tv setting. If you haven't read the Av post, it wouldn't hurt to check it out, because there are some basics there that aren't duplicated in this post. Tv is like Av in that it allows you... Continue Reading →
TUESDAY TIPS: Av Setting
So you got a brand spankin' new DSLR or high-end P&S camera, and you're wondering what all the letters on the dial are for. Tv, Av, M… It's all greek to you. The next few Tuesday Tips are going to (hopefully) get you started. First of all, if you have a DSLR, and shoot with... Continue Reading →
Sabrina’s Golden Hour Paddle Board Shoot
Back in August, Sabrina and I headed down to the river for a paddle board shoot. It’s a spot I’ve driven past many times, but this is the first time I’ve stopped. I’ve been craving a water shoot for a while now, and even though the river wasn’t deep enough to get every shot I... Continue Reading →
The Red Jacket
Sabrina and I are getting pretty good at the quick impromptu shoots. There was a red leather jacket that we knew would look amazing on her, so we had to squeeze in a shoot the other day. No grand location--just a cool brick building downtown. We work well together, and I can't wait to see... Continue Reading →
2024 Photo Stats
It took me a bit to get this one done. 2025 started out busy, but I finally have some time to crunch the numbers. I don’t think more than three people read these year in photos posts, but I like to have them for myself to look back on. I skipped the 52 Portraits project... Continue Reading →
Chasing the Northern Lights in Montana
I had heard about the Northern Lights. I had seen pictures from various sources. But I never realized I'd be able to see them myself. When I moved back to Montana, my buddy Steve pointed out that we can actually see them from Montana. He'd always give me a heads up when there was a... Continue Reading →
Light Show
Great little thunderstorm last night to start the spring weather. The dog was less than impressed by the thunder. It brought a bit of rain with it, but we’re going to need a lot more to make it through summer without burning up. It sounds strange to say I love the rain when the rain... Continue Reading →
This year’s step critters
When I first moved into this house, I noticed a bull snake living underneath my front steps. He was pretty cool--kept mainly to himself and decimated the rodent population. After a few years, he disappeared. This year, it's rabbits. There were three--mama and two babies--but we seem to be down to just one baby now.... Continue Reading →
Winter Things
Playing a little catch up with the winter weather we’ve been having. Finally got to go skiing--might be the only time this year, so we made the most of it. As I'm writing this, it's 50ºF outside, so that might be the end of winter. This is Montana, though, so we could get an epic... Continue Reading →
Sloppy roads, fog, and snow
It was almost 40º when I took the scenic route home today. Lots of slush and mud, a few birds, and a great opportunity for black and white photography.
Snow, Birds, and Sunsets
Trying to get in the habit of going for a drive in the evenings to see what I can see. Sometimes the sunsets fizzle, but it's always great to just get out of the house.
