Back in 2022, I wrote about why I kept coming back to Todoist. That is no longer the case. My work system is dialed in. My personal task/project system is, occasionally, pure chaos. It’s a rotating cast of apps. I realize that switching apps all of the time makes me part of the problem. Shiny... Continue Reading →
First Camping Trip of 2025
We hit 70º last Wednesday, so I decided to throw the dog and the cameras in the truck and run up to Willow Creek for the night. 100% worth it. The sunsets have been lacking lately, so it was a gamble. It paid off, though. There’s nothing better than sitting by the camp fire with... Continue Reading →
Puppies, Sushi, and Friends: A Perfect Weekend
Puppies! Lily came up to visit last weekend and brought her two puppies. Sally and Sam are a blast, and Diego loved playing with them for about a day. Then he realized he's no longer a puppy. His legs are just getting old, so he grumped around for the rest of their visit. He did... Continue Reading →
Adapting to Water Supply Changes: My Experience with Hauling Water
The water situation at my house is unique due to well usage restrictions and the recent closure of the water delivery company. I now haul water using a 350-gallon tank on a trailer. This opens up options for gardening but presents challenges in winter. I aim to collect rainwater and supplement with city water. A video of my first water hauling trip is on YouTube.
Winter Things
Playing a little catch up with the winter weather we’ve been having. Finally got to go skiing--might be the only time this year, so we made the most of it. As I'm writing this, it's 50ºF outside, so that might be the end of winter. This is Montana, though, so we could get an epic... Continue Reading →
2023 Year in Review
2023 hasn’t been a year for writing. Or for a lot of intentional photography. My priorities focused heavily on people and experiences, and I’m happy about that. I shot significantly more in 2023, but they were largely snapshots. 5,460 iPhone photos vs. 2,576 A7R3 photos. I subscribe to the notion that the best camera is... Continue Reading →
Catching Up
I have some catching up to do. This was the first summer in awhile that ended without me wishing I had done more. It was full of friends and family and adventures. Fall brought more of the same, and a new roomie. I keep telling myself I’m going to do more short posts instead of... Continue Reading →
Adventure Friends
I have a pretty small and diverse selection of great friends. It's true what they say--as you get older, you start to value quality over quantity. Lily has become one of the best. We've discovered that we adventure similarly. We're perfectly fine with stopping every ten minutes to take photos of flowers, or a stunning... Continue Reading →
Corn Ribs
I realize this has nothing to do with photography, but I had to share. To those of you who have heard of these before, you already know what I’m going to say. To the rest of you, try these now. I went to a new bar in town last weekend, and one of the menu... Continue Reading →
Dad
In 2004, I shot this blurry photo of my dad in Missoula, MT. When he saw it, he immediately decided that it was the photo he wanted included in his obituary. I have no idea why he instantly thought of his obituary, but last year we honored his request. It’s been a year now since... Continue Reading →
Friends and Photography
My buddy Steve came back to Central Montana for a visit last week, so we decided to have a beer and shoot some photos. He brought his Inspire 2 with him, and I charged up a battery for my Mavic, and we headed west of Ulm to try to find a tree I remember shooting... Continue Reading →
Taco Tuesday at Elevation 3330
I love tacos. I mean, who doesn’t? One of my favorites in Great Falls comes from Elevation 3330. Their Taco Tuesday is outstanding, and changes every week. The only ones I avoid are the beef tongue. I’ve heard good things, but I just can’t get past the whole tongue thing. Washed it all down with... Continue Reading →
