iOS 5.0.1 OTA Update

iOS 5.0.1 was released the other day. It was supposed to contain battery fixes, but apparently it doesn't, according to users. I can't say for sure, since I'm back at home (WiFi all day, and the phone is plugged in most of the day.) Turning off the whole automatic time zone discovery thing in settings seemed to fix my battery issues. Though I'm not really sure what effect turning that off had on my phone. It still updated the time automatically based on where I was on the country. That's not the point of this post, however. The best part of the iOS 5.0.1 update? You can grab it OTA. Yes folks, the update method enjoyed for years by other smartphone users is finally available to iOS users. Worked flawlessly for me. I really like the changes iOS 5 brought to the table, and once Apple irons out the bugs, there will be a lot of happy iPhone/iPod/iPad users out there.

If you haven't updated yet, you might want to wait for the next update (when Apple hopefully squashes the remaining battery draining bugs.) Unless you just want to try out the OTA update. Five-oh-one doesn't seem to make the battery drain worse, so go for it. You'll need to either have at least 50% battery, or be plugged in to power for the OTA update to work. I recommend plugging in to a power source whenever doing an OS update just to be safe.
