Adapting to Water Supply Changes: My Experience with Hauling Water

The water situation at my house is interesting. There are three houses in this little subdivided piece of land. The well is on my property, but the covenants state that only two houses can use the well at the same time. The neighbors both use the well, so when my dad built this place, he had to have city water delivered.

In true Dad fashion, he chose a little family owned company to deliver his water. When I bought the house from him, I kept the same company for my water deliveries. They’ve been delivering water to this house for about 15 years.

Unfortunately, a couple weeks ago they went out of business. Instead of finding a new water delivery company, I decided to start hauling my own water.

My truck is only a 1/2 ton, so it’s not feasible to haul water with it. Instead, I put a 350 gallon water tank on my flatbed trailer. I finally got everything put together and made the first trip into town to get water yesterday. Aside from getting soaked a few times, it went well.

Hauling my own water opens up some additional possibilities as far as watering a garden, or additional trees, so I’m looking forward to trying a few things out. The only part I’m not looking forward to is hauling water in the winter. But ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Next year I’m thinking of getting a few smaller tanks to keep in the back yard to capture rainwater. I can supplement the rain water with extra trips into town for city water.

Anyway, I’ve been playing with video again, so I threw the maiden voyage on YouTube.
