TUESDAY TIPS: My Top 5 iPhone Photography Apps

The best camera is the one you have with you

I used to carry a little Canon SD780 IS on my belt. Now, almost all snapshots are taken with my iPhone 5. In fact, the only disadvantage I’ve found to shooting with the iPhone 5 instead of my SD780 is the lack of zoom.

So, like everyone else, (I imagine,) I’ve downloaded a ton of photography apps over the years. Eventually, though, I forced myself to simplify and stick with just a few apps that I know I’ll use on a regular basis.

Top 5

In no particular order

  • Camera: The native camera app that comes with the iPhone. I shoot almost everything with this app first.
  • Snapseed: Recently purchased by Google, this is the only app I use for editing on the iPhone. It’s fairly intuitive, and offers the options I need when I’m doing some quick editing on the phone.
  • 360 Panorama: Yes, the iPhone Camera app has a panorama mode, but the 360 app is awesome for creating full 360° views of my surroundings.
  • Dropbox: Camera uploads via Dropbox are crucial for my iPhone-to-Lightroom workflow.
  • Eye-Fi: When I need to use my point-and-shoot camera, I use the Eye-Fi Pro X2 card and Eye-Fi app to get photos from the camera to my iPhone for editing and sharing. This is a great way to get better quality food photos for Evernote Food!

Others

There are other photography apps living on my phone. Instagram, and Flickr are the two main distribution apps. I also have Photoshop Touch, but don’t use it often.

What about you? What are you favorite mobile photography apps?
